Pamela McDaniel, Ph.D. ~ Director of Family Outreach & Support

I am Pamela McDaniel, the Family Outreach Director for The Council. I will be working on developing and implementing outreach activities geared toward families of infants, toddlers and young children with disabilities.

Just to share a little about myself: I’m a wife and mother of two beautiful little boys, Cory and Cameron. I bring you fifteen years of interpersonal communication skills from my marketing/communications background, and ten years of experience as a mother and advocate of my medically fragile son. When I was blessed with Cory, my career goals and priorities changed for the better. I attached myself to The Council and have been here ever since Cory was a newborn. I’ve served on The Council board, participated in the family outreach support groups, and volunteered in the family outreach program.

Being Cory’s mother has caused me to become an advanced researcher, advocate and full time prayer warrior. My job as family outreach director is not only to help and support you, but also to educate, train, and provide you with the necessary resources to help you effectively advocate for your children, so that they are equipped with everything they need to be successful in their early childhood development.

My job is so rewarding because I am able to provide families the support and friendship that was given to me when Cory was born. I am a parent of a child with multiple disabilities. Family outreach is not just my job, it is a big part of who I am. This position allows me to express sympathy because I understand and support the emotional experience of being a parent of a child with a disability—and empathy, because I can relate to the thoughts, emotions and experience of parenting such a special child. Family outreach offers you shared emotions, understanding and friendship. It offers you partnerships with other parents so you know that you are not alone, but have a support system in place to help you when you need it.
